Get to know Kathryn (Katie)

Hi! My name is Katie and I am bilingual (English/French) Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) and student therapist currently completing my Master of Education in Counselling Psychology at the University of Ottawa. I also hold an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Minor in Studies of Social Issues in Sport, Physical Activity and Leisure from the University of Ottawa. I practice under the supervision of Sarah Royer, RP. (CRPO, ID: 008549).

My experiences as a former elite athlete and student-athlete have played an important role in shaping my interest in mental health and well-being in sport. I understand that an athlete’s experience is influenced by much more than what happens during training and competition. Relationships, academics, injuries, transitions, and other aspects of life can all affect how someone feels and performs. I am particularly interested in supporting athletes and student-athletes as they navigate these experiences and find ways to care for their mental health while pursuing their goals. I also enjoy working with individuals from the broader community, including adolescents and students.

I believe that feeling understood and accepted is an important part of the counselling process. I aim to create a space where clients can speak openly about their experiences, explore what matters to them, and feel comfortable being themselves. I use evidence-based therapeutic approaches and strategies while adapting my work to each client’s individual needs and goals. I also place importance on recognizing the strengths and resources that clients already have. I believe that clients know themselves and their experiences best, and I see my role as working alongside them to support their growth and well-being.

I am a member of The College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO, ID: 23058).
