Get to know Mischal

Hello! I’m Mischal (they/them), a queer, non-binary graduate practicum counsellor with Outside the Box Counselling, offering affirming, trauma-informed, and anti-oppressive virtual counselling across Canada. I specialize in working with 2SLGBTQIA+ youth, adults, couples, and families, as well as clients exploring gender identity, neurodivergence, disability, anxiety, relationships, and life transitions. Much of this work is informed by my own lived experience, allowing me to bring deep empathy, understanding, and authenticity into the therapeutic space.

As a supervised student counsellor, I am able to offer low-cost counselling with sliding-scale fees, and our practice is committed to accessibility—we aim never to turn someone away due to financial barriers. I provide online therapy to clients located in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Newfoundland and Labrador, Yukon, Nunavut, and the Northwest Territories, making affirming mental health care more accessible to folks in both urban and rural communities.

My counselling approach is warm, gentle, collaborative, and at times playful, always tailored to the unique needs of each client. I use an integrative therapy framework, drawing from Internal Family Systems (IFS), Attachment-Based Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), Relational Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, Psychodrama, Mindfulness-based approaches, and Non-Violent Communication (NVC). This allows us to work with emotions, relationships, identity, and nervous-system regulation in a holistic and responsive way.

I am deeply honoured by the trust it takes to begin counselling. Supporting people as they explore their identities, relationships, healing, and hopes for the future is the heart of my work. Whether you are navigating anxiety, burnout, gender exploration, relationship challenges, neurodivergence, or simply seeking a queer- and trans-affirming therapist who meets you where you are, I am here to walk alongside you with care, curiosity, and respect.
