Get to know Melina

Hi, I’m Melina. I’m currently completing my practicum as part of the Master of Counselling program at City University. My path into counselling has been shaped by both my academic background — including a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Alberta — and years of experience working with children, families, and communities. These experiences have deepened my commitment to creating safe, supportive spaces where people feel genuinely heard and understood.

What draws me most to counselling is the opportunity to walk alongside people as they navigate life’s challenges and transitions. I believe therapy works best as a collaborative process, grounded in trust, respect, and curiosity. Together, we can explore your experiences, identify strengths, and work toward meaningful growth and healing in a way that feels authentic to you.

I enjoy supporting clients across different stages of life, including those navigating stress, anxiety, relationship challenges, or major life transitions. I also have a strong interest in culturally responsive counselling and in exploring how family systems, nonverbal communication, and broader social contexts shape our well-being and sense of self. My goal is to offer a warm, inclusive environment where people of all identities feel respected and supported.

My approach draws from evidence-based practices and focuses on balancing practical strategies for moving forward with thoughtful exploration of patterns, experiences, and relationships that influence how we feel and function.

When I’m not studying or in session, you’ll often find me staying active — at the gym, practicing yoga, or snowboarding when the weather allows. I also enjoy spending time with loved ones and experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen. Staying connected, curious, and compassionate in my own life helps me bring those same qualities into my work as a developing counsellor.
