Get to know Chiharu

I am Chiharu Yanagawa, a Master’s student in Counselling Psychology at the University of Toronto, with a strong foundation in psychology and hands-on experience in mental health support. My journey is driven by a commitment to helping individuals achieve personal growth and mental well-being through compassionate and effective intervention. With an extensive training in areas such as Motivational Interviewing, Crisis Intervention, and Mental Health First Aid, I bring a comprehensive approach to supporting diverse client needs.

My professional experience spans roles as a CareCoach Coordinator of the Smoking Cessation Line, Group Facilitator at the Canadian Training Institute and a Phone and Text Crisis Line Responder at the Distress Call Centre. These roles have allowed me to develop expertise in client supervision, crisis management, and personal development, applying skills in motivational interviewing and crisis intervention to guide individuals through challenging situations. Additionally, my work as a Group Therapy Facilitator at Healing Clinic has involved leading discussions to support mental health and educate participants on overcoming personal issues.

Fluent in English, Japanese, and Mandarin, I am committed to providing culturally sensitive and inclusive care, ensuring that each client’s unique background is respected and valued. As I advance in my studies and professional development, my goal remains to offer a supportive environment where clients can explore their potential, overcome obstacles, and move toward their highest self. My approach integrates evidence-based practices with a deep respect for individual experiences, aiming to foster growth, resilience, and a greater sense of self-awareness. Through this blend of theoretical knowledge, practical experience, and cultural sensitivity, I am dedicated to helping individuals achieve meaningful and lasting mental well-being.
