Get to know Ben

Taking that first step toward counselling can be scary. You might be feeling overwhelmed, lost and fearful. I am deeply committed to helping individuals navigate the complexities of emotional pain, such as anxiety and shame. My approach centers on compassionately facing emotional pain rather than avoiding it. I believe in getting to know these feelings and allowing them to guide us toward growth and healing. While we don’t have control over many aspects of our lives, we have the power to shape our own stories.

I work with individuals to explore their personal narratives and the strong emotions tied to them. Together, we will illuminate the different facets of your experiences, helping you move toward greater clarity and understanding. My goal is to support you in uncovering the insights that these experiences reveal, fostering a path toward your values and true “self”.

Much like a compass providing direction, I will help you find your true north. It will not always be easy, you can expect stormy weather and wind. However, we can brave the storm together, guiding you toward a path of clarity and purpose.

Professional Background

I come from a diverse background in health care, education, addictions, group homes, and private practice. I have worked alongside individuals dealing with anxiety, Conduct Disorder, addictions, ADHD, trauma, and attachment issues in both Canada and Australia.

Facilitating groups has always been a passion of mine. I have led groups in DBT, CBT (Taming Worry Dragons), horticulture, art, fitness, and more recently, longboarding. I am an active member of the OACYC and a Level-One DDP therapist. Recognizing the therapeutic value of the outdoors, I do take clients outside on trails.

I graduated from the Child and Youth Care Studies program at Toronto Metropolitan University and am currently completing my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology (MACP) at Yorkville University.

Personal note(s)

I have lived a nomadic life, moving from Ottawa to Israel, Toronto, Australia, and now Hamilton. Movement has always been important to me; lately, I have been trying to master walking handstands and learn tennis.
I understand firsthand the vulnerability it takes to be in therapy. Having been on the other side of the therapist’s chair as a client, I have gained valuable insights from that experience.

Practicing mindfulness has been a significant part of my journey, and I have seen its benefits in fostering a sense of physical and cognitive presence.

In my free time, I enjoy listening to podcasts like Radiolab and Gastropod, watching RuPaul’s Drag Race, and tending to my plants. These activities help me unwind and recharge.
